3/11/2009 - Armstrong Foundation Donates to Australia Bushfire Relief

The donation will assist the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, which is leading the support efforts for the thousands affected by rampant bushfires in the state of Victoria.

At least 210 people died in the devastating fires, described as Australia’s worst ever, that started on February 7 and more than 2000 homes were destroyed.

Armstrong operates flooring plants in Braeside and Thomastown, Victoria. Neither facility was damaged by the fires.

Mike Jenkins, vice president, Southern Asia/Pacific – AFP, said ”A number of our people were directly affected with lost property, deceased relatives and evacuations. It has resulted in an enormous community effort which will go on for some time. The company contribution is a wonderful gesture in assisting people as they rebuild their lives.”

President Barack Obama has proclaimed March as Red Cross Month, upholding a tradition begun by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1943.
